# Live Open Data India & World

> Official government and open data API: 94 public sources in one endpoint, 51 real-time, across India, Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. India: disaster alerts, CPI inflation, GDP, jobs, IFSC. World: earthquakes, weather forecasts and warnings, train and transit departures, flight and ship tracking, fuel and electricity prices, exchange rates, public tenders, company registries, geocoding, public holidays. The dataset parameter selects the source; responses cite source and licence.

Notice: London (TfL) datasets are not working for now. Calls to them return HTTP 503 before any payment is requested, so nothing is charged.

## FAQ

### What is this?
A single pay-per-call API over 94 official open-data sources (51 real-time): national weather services, seismology agencies, rail and transit operators, energy grid operators, central banks, statistics offices and procurement portals in India, Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. Every response is normalised JSON with the source and licence attached.

### Do I need an API key or an account?
No. Payment is the authentication: any x402 v2 client with a Base wallet holding USDC can call every endpoint. There is no sign-up, no key and no subscription.

### How does payment work, step by step?
1) Send a normal GET. 2) You get HTTP 402 with a PAYMENT-REQUIRED header stating the exact USDC amount, the network (Base, eip155:8453) and the pay-to address. 3) Your client signs a USDC transfer authorisation and repeats the GET with a PAYMENT-SIGNATURE header. 4) The data is returned and the payment settles through the Coinbase CDP facilitator. Tools that do this automatically: Coinbase agentic wallet (npx awal x402 pay <url>), @x402/fetch, @x402/axios, x402 Python clients.

### How much does a call cost?
Between $0.003–$0.01 per call depending on the dataset, shown in the 402 response before you pay and listed per dataset in https://api.jexxa.org/v1/catalog. No minimums, no monthly fees.

### Am I charged if something goes wrong?
No. Payment only settles when the response is HTTP 200. Missing or invalid parameters (400), nothing found at the source (404), source outages with no cached copy (502) and switched-off datasets (503) are never charged. The error body says charged: false.

### How do I choose what data I get?
There is one endpoint, https://api.jexxa.org/v1/query. The dataset parameter picks the source (e.g. dataset=live.global_earthquakes) and the remaining parameters are that dataset's own (e.g. minmag=5). Each call returns one dataset. The catalog lists every dataset id with its parameters and a working example URL.

### Is there an MCP server?
Yes: https://api.jexxa.org/mcp (Streamable HTTP, no key). Tools: search_datasets and get_dataset are free; query_dataset is paid per call with x402 over MCP (payment in _meta["x402/payment"], as implemented by @x402/mcp) and charged only when data is returned.

### How fresh is the data?
Live feeds are fetched from the source and cached for 30 seconds to 10 minutes (cache_seconds per dataset in the catalog); statistics and reference data are cached longer. Each response carries retrieved_at, cached, and stale. stale: true means the source was briefly down and the last good copy was served.

### How reliable is it?
Each dataset sits behind a router that respects every provider's published rate limit, coalesces identical requests, retries transient failures, opens a circuit breaker on failing upstreams and fails over between up to five providers where more than one exists (exchange rates and geocoding already have several). ### Can I use and republish the data?
Every dataset was selected because its licence allows commercial reuse with attribution (e.g. GODL-India, CC BY 4.0, Open Government Licence, Licence Ouverte, NLOD). Each response includes source.license and source.attribution; show the attribution wherever you display the data.

### How do I find station, stop or indicator codes?
Helper datasets return them: live.norway_stop_search for Entur stop ids, india.stats_indicators for MoSPI indicator codes, geo.* for coordinates from addresses or postcodes. Parameter descriptions and working examples for every dataset are in the catalog.

### What is not covered?
United States data is not included yet. Public holidays do not cover India (the source does not publish it). London (TfL) datasets are not working for now. Calls to them return HTTP 503 before any payment is requested, so nothing is charged.

### Is there a rate limit?
Normal agent traffic is unaffected. Very high bursts from one IP may be briefly blocked (HTTP 429, not charged). Upstream providers' own limits are handled by the gateway.
